Edinburgh sash & case window restoration
By Hermitage Windows
Whether your traditional sash and case windows need to be repaired, repainted or fully restored, we will return them to their former glory.
The process of sash and case window restoration starts with the removal of old baton rods, parting beads and existing sashes.
Next we refurbish the casement removing the existing paintwork to expose and repair or replace any rotting or damaged wood. All external sand mastic is removed and any holes or blemishes in the casement are filled.
Once restored, we provide a foam and external sand mastic sealant around the outside of the casement acting as a barrier from the elements.
At this stage the casement is thoroughly sanded to create the perfect surface for a smooth paint finish, before installing bespoke, heavy duty pulley wheels. Ironmongery is available in polished brass, antique brass, chrome or satin chrome finish.
With a deep appreciation of Georgian architecture spanning three generations, Hermitage Windows specialise in the art of historically authentic sash and case window restoration.
Restoring the sashes
We begin by removing all old ironmongery and existing paintwork and repair or replace any rotting or damaged wood.
The sashes are filled and sanded down to create a smooth finish. Broken panes of glass or cracked putty are replaced on site.
Sashes are weighted and re-roped using heavy duty sash cord and installed back in the case.
Once operating smoothly, we install specially run parting beads and baton rods with draught-excluding brush strips. All windows require a level of airflow for property ventilation.
All exposed timber receives a coat of preservative base primer to protect the timber from rot and acts as a base coat for our proven paint system.
All windows above ground floor are installed using an ‘easy clean’ simplex system allowing windows to be swung inwards in order to clean glass and timber.
All windows on the ground floor require height restrictors for security purposes. No planning consent is required with this option.
Trusted by clients across the country, we will work with you restore or repair your traditional sash and case windows and achieve high performance specification with double glazing.
We serve Scotland and the North of England from our Edinburgh office, Borders and Lothian workshops.
Protecting your property
During the process your carpets will be protected with Roll & Stroll carpet film and any hardwood surfaces covered with polypropylene sheets. We dust sheet the entire room and protect all surfaces. Our team will ensure all rubbish and debris is removed from site.
